The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has introduced enhanced security screening measures at Accra International Airport, requiring all departing passengers to undergo additional checks before entering the Departure Hall.

In a statement issued by GACL on Friday, the airport operator said the new pre-screening exercise is being conducted by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) at the entrance of the Departure Hall.

Under the new arrangement, passengers will be required to have their luggage screened using security scanning machines and sniffer dogs before proceeding to the check-in area.

GACL said the additional airport security measures are part of efforts to strengthen aviation security in Ghana and bring security procedures at the airport in line with practices adopted at several international airports around the world.

Passengers travelling through Accra International Airport have therefore been advised to arrive at least three hours before their scheduled flight departure time.

According to GACL, the additional time will allow passengers to complete the enhanced security screening, check-in process and other required airport boarding formalities without unnecessary delays.

The airport operator also reminded the public that access to the Departure Hall is restricted to passengers who are travelling. Non-travelling individuals will not be allowed into the restricted area.

GACL appealed to passengers and other airport users to cooperate with security officials during the screening process as the authorities work to maintain a safe, secure and efficient airport environment.

The company added that it will continue working with relevant security agencies to strengthen airport security in Ghana and ensure smooth operations for travellers using Accra International Airport.
