The Ghana Armwrestling Federation and the national arm wrestling team, the Golden Arms, celebrated their triumph at the recently concluded 2026 African and Para Arm wrestling Championship held in Accra at the home of Accra Mayor Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey.
After an outstanding performance at the Borteyman Sports Complex, the Ghana team won the championship overall with 52 gold, 63 silver, and 34 bronze medals, earning a total of 1,262 points.
Speaking during the function, Mayor Allotey stated that the athletes’ outstanding defence of the national flag made the team’s accomplishment worthy of celebration.
He stated that when the Ghana Arm Wrestling Federation’s leadership initially contacted him prior to the competition, he promised them his support while urging them to make sure they won medals for the nation.

He stated that by winning over 50 gold medals and a total of 149 medals, the team had fulfilled their end of the bargain and that it was only right that the Assembly reward them.
A 30-person arm wrestling team composed of chosen national team members will be formed by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, according to Mayor Allotey.
The Mayor revealed that the chosen members will receive monthly compensation and help with revenue mobilisation efforts, such as ticketing, with the possibility of earning extra money through commission-based employment.
He urged the Golden Arms to continue being disciplined, focused, and dedicated to further accomplishments while praising them for making Ghana proud.
The Ghana Arm Wrestling Federation President, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, thanked the Mayor for his hospitality, encouragement, and support.

The gesture, according to Mr. Asibey, was significant to the Federation because it demonstrated that the team had a home and a reliable source of support at the Office of the Mayor of Accra.
Later, the Mayor received a plaque from the Ghana Arm Wrestling Federation’s leadership as a token of gratitude for his support.
The plaque, which featured the Ghana Armwrestling Federation’s logo, read, “Your support made every victory possible” and commemorated “10 years of pulling together.”
