According to many media reports, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a former minister of trade and industry, is apparently planning to leave the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the second time in his political career.

In the most recent NPP Super Delegates Conference, Kyerematen, who held the position of Minister of Trade under the governments of John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, competed for the position of flagbearer.

He finished third in the vote, but he later dropped out of the campaign due to intimidation of his backers and unfair treatment in the North East Region.

But today, at his press conference, he confirmed his resignation from the NPP to go as an independent candidate in the coming 2024 Presidential elections

I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate – Alan John Kyerematen
