Seven cargo trucks that were parked on the shoulders of the Otublohum road close to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Water facilities at Avenor were towed by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) as part of an enforcement operation meant to reduce traffic and improve traffic flow in the city.

During an operation to enforce roadside parking restrictions and prevent the misuse of public spaces, the trucks were taken away on Monday due to their obstruction of vehicular flow and risk to other road users.

Additionally, the Assembly enforced the law at Obonu Street, which is close to the Amankwaa Block Factory. There, it towed saloon automobiles from a shop that operated under a high-tension electrical pole.

Speaking during the operation, Mr. Douglas Annoful, the AMA’s Coordinating Director, stated that the action was taken since the mechanics and drivers had been warned since last year not to conduct any business under power wires or in prohibited areas.

He stated that the Assembly will keep up its enforcement efforts and punish individuals and companies whose actions jeopardised public safety, blocked traffic, or violated city ordinances.
