Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) chairman, has disputed a Ministry of the Interior study that claimed there was no proof of violence in connection with a death that occurred during the general elections in 2024.
During his five-day “Thank You” trip of the Central Region, Mr. Asiedu Nketia spoke to party supporters in the Awutu Senya East Constituency and declared that the party would not accept the Ministry’s stance.
He claims that efforts to enforce responsibility are undermined by the report, which “smacks of an agenda” to protect offenders because of friendships and other affiliations.
In order to prevent similar incidents in the future, he emphasised that both the masterminds and the perpetrators of the electoral violence that occurred during the general elections in 2020 and 2024 must face harsh consequences.
“I have heard that someone stated that there is no evidence of the electoral violence that took place in Kasoa. We are not kids at this party. If we have all agreed that violence relating to elections is not good, we must all endeavour to stop it. We must desist from covering up issues when it comes to violence,” he stated.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia insisted that election violence should not be minimised or disregarded and that the case will be pursued until those involved are held accountable.
He urged all parties involved to show their dedication to putting an end to violence in the nation during elections and to respect the values of justice and openness.
