Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has said Ghana’s next phase of economic transformation must focus strongly on creating decent and productive jobs, particularly for the country’s growing youth population.

According to the Finance Minister, the government’s New Economy agenda is intended to move Ghana beyond economic stabilisation and place job creation, productivity and shared prosperity at the centre of national development.

Dr. Ato Forson made the remarks after engaging academics, researchers and students of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Nyankpala Campus, describing the interaction as successful and inspiring.

He said the engagement provided an opportunity to discuss how Ghana can build an economy that responds more directly to the aspirations and expectations of young people.

“The New Economy must create jobs at scale: decent, productive jobs that give young people a real stake in Ghana’s future,” Dr. Forson stated.

New Economy Agenda to Drive Job Creation

The Finance Minister explained that a key objective of the New Economy in Ghana is to create an environment where businesses can expand, productivity can increase and more young people can access meaningful employment opportunities.

He said the government’s economic transformation agenda should not focus solely on macroeconomic stability but must also deliver tangible opportunities for ordinary Ghanaians.

The Finance Minister noted that creating productive jobs for Ghanaian youth would be essential to achieving sustainable economic growth and improving living standards.

Reflecting on his engagement with the UDS community, Dr. Ato Forson said the discussions with academics, researchers and students reinforced the need to build an economy capable of supporting entrepreneurship and expanding opportunities for young people.

“Yesterday’s New Economy engagement with distinguished academics, researchers and students of the University for Development Studies, Nyankpala Campus, was deeply successful and inspiring,” he said.

He explained that the New Economy agenda is designed to support enterprise development while creating pathways for young Ghanaians to participate meaningfully in the country’s economic growth.

Ghana’s Economic Transformation and Youth Employment

Dr. Forson stressed that the New Economy conversation goes beyond government policy and economic statistics.

He said it is ultimately about shaping a future where Ghanaian youth can fully participate in national development and benefit from the country’s economic progress.

The Finance Minister’s comments highlight youth employment, job creation, productivity, entrepreneurship and shared prosperity as key priorities in Ghana’s next phase of economic transformation.

The government is therefore positioning the New Economy agenda as a framework for creating more opportunities for young people while strengthening Ghana’s economic growth and long-term development.
