Kofi Iddie Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, has denied rumours that Carlos Queiroz, the recently hired head coach of the Black Stars, will be paid $100,000 a month.

The Ghana Football Association may have accepted that sum for the Portuguese manager, according to rumours, but the Minister is adamant that the sum is less. He said that once contractual terms are finalised, the precise remuneration will be disclosed.

Given the impending FIFA World Cup, the Minister clarified on Asempa FM that haste was a major factor in the appointment.

“We needed a coach who is ready to take the team because we know the World Cup is just around the corner. Whether local or foreign, the coach must be ready,” he stated.

In theory, the arrangement is for a short-term contract linked to the competition, he continued.

“The condition we agreed was that we were going for a short-term contract, maximum four months, for the period of the World Cup, but performance will determine any further agreement.”

Speaking about the salary once more, he insisted that the stated amount is untrue.

He emphasised that talks are still going on and that the final conditions have not yet been approved.

“We are not paying him $100,000. We are not paying him up to that amount at all,”

After arriving in Ghana on Wednesday, April 22, Queiroz was formally revealed last week. Recently, the Portuguese boss kept an eye on the Black Galaxies in camp in an attempt to call up some local players for the team’s impending friendly against Wales and Mexico.

In order to interact with players overseas, he is currently starting a European tour.
