The revised Alternative Offer for Pension Funds Offered by the Government of Ghana has been rejected by the University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (UTAG).

At a meeting on Saturday, April 15, 2023, UTAG declared its decision to reject the New GOG Suggested Alternative Offer for Pension Funds.

In a statement released on Monday, April 17, 2023 and co-signed by its National President Solomon Nunoo and National Secretary Dr. Asante-Amanor, the association stated that “the NEC of UTAG held an emergency meeting on April 15, 2023, and after careful deliberations, resolved to reject the New GOG Proposed Alternative Offer for Pension Funds.”

“We categorically oppose the suggestion to use our pension funds, including GUSSS, SSNIT, and any other pension fund that affects our members,” the UTAG emphasized.

Additionally, it reaffirmed its prior “resolve on the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme contained in a communiqué with reference UTAG/NAT/2022/EM-012 and dated 7th December 2022, that we are still unable to participate in any intervention that would worsen the plight of the already destitute Ghanaian University Lecturer” (UTAG/NAT/2022/EM-012).
