Julius Neequaye Kotey, the CEO of Ghana’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), revealed that he took over the company’s substantial financial obligations from Kwasi Agyemang Busia, his predecessor.

He said that the debt totaled more than $200 million and 300 million Ghanaian cedis.

Speaking on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, on Accra100.5 FM’s Citizen Show, which was hosted by Nana Kwabena Bobie Ansah, Mr. Kotey clarified that the difficulties the authority was facing were related to what he called ineptitude and conceit in the previous administration.

He added that during that time, authority workers were afraid to voice their concerns for fear of being victimized.

According to Mr. Kotey, he has since paid off every obligation he inherited from his predecessor.

He further disclosed that he turned down bribes totaling more than 400 million Ghana cedis in an attempt to shield the nation from unscrupulous transactions.

Before firing them, he also promised to pursue any employees who obtained jobs at the authority using forged credentials.
