Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance, has instructed the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to take a number of actions right now in order to fortify border security and safeguard public funds.
The directive comes after the finance minister, Mr. Aaron Akanor, the Acting Commissioner of Customs, and the GRA’s Customs Division management met to discuss recent events at Ghana’s borders.
After the talks, the Minister issued an emergency order prohibiting certain items from being transported by land. The impacted goods must only be transported via Ghana’s seaports, and they will no longer be allowed to enter or pass through the nation via land borders.
The following products are impacted by the directive:
1. Cooking oil
2. Rice
3. Sugar
4. Frozen products
5. Textiles
6. Flour
7. Canned tomatoes
8. Pasta / Spaghetti
9. Pharmaceutical products

The finance minister stressed that the actions are meant to protect government revenue, prevent revenue leaks, and improve enforcement at Ghana’s borders.
As a result, he has directed all pertinent divisions and departments under the Ghana Revenue Authority’s Customs Division to make sure that the new orders are strictly followed starting right away.
The recently appointed commissioner of customs stated that they will try their hardest to avoid disappointing the minister and the country.
