BoG has not abandoned the eCedi project – Governor BoG

The central bank has not given up on the eCedi initiative, according to Dr. Johnson Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

He emphasises that authorities are still looking into methods to use the digital currency to facilitate cross-border payments and enhance trade throughout the region.

Speaking following the Monetary Policy Committee meeting, Dr. Asiama stated that while the Bank of Ghana is still dedicated to the central bank digital currency plan, more pilot projects should be carried out before a full-scale implementation.

He claims that the central bank is especially interested in how the digital currency may help companies operating in the sub-region settle cross-border transactions more quickly and effectively.
