Deputy Minister for Health, Hon. Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has urged Ghana Military Nurses and Midwives to continue demonstrating compassion, maintaining high professional standards and remaining committed to serving the nation.
She made the call while officially closing the 2026 Military Nightingales’ Week Celebration, which brought together serving and retired military nurses and midwives to celebrate their contribution to healthcare delivery.
The week-long event provided an opportunity to promote professional development in nursing and midwifery, recognise outstanding service and honour personnel who have contributed significantly to healthcare within the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services.
Deputy Health Minister Highlights Role of Experienced Nurses
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Ayensu-Danquah emphasised the importance of using the knowledge and experience of retired military nurses and midwives to mentor and prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals.
She noted that the experiences of senior and retired personnel can provide valuable lessons for young nurses and midwives as they develop their careers and contribute to Ghana’s healthcare system.
The Deputy Minister congratulated all award winners and honourees for their achievements and recognised the efforts of the organisers, leadership of the 37 Military Hospital, sponsors, partners and personnel who contributed to the success of the celebration.

Prof. Dr. Ayensu-Danquah also assured the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services of the Ministry of Health’s continued commitment to supporting the welfare, training and professional advancement of military nurses and midwives.
She encouraged the personnel to uphold their commitment to healthcare delivery and continue serving with professionalism and compassion across all operational environments.
The Deputy Minister subsequently declared the 2026 Military Nightingales’ Week Celebration officially closed, bringing the week-long programme to an end.
The celebration highlights the important role of military nurses and midwives in Ghana’s healthcare system, while promoting continuous professional development and recognition of healthcare workers serving within the Ghana Armed Forces.
