Malta and Ghana are exploring opportunities to strengthen cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation and technology innovation, with both countries seeking to build a forward-looking partnership that could support economic growth and technological development.
Malta’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Ronald Micallef, made the proposal during One Vecta Africa AI Week 2026 in Accra, where he called for a structured dialogue involving governments, regulators, universities and private-sector organisations.
According to Micallef, Malta could contribute its European regulatory experience and institutional agility, while Ghana brings a growing pool of technology talent, market opportunities and regional influence within Africa.
He said cooperation between the two countries should move beyond broad policy statements and focus on practical AI initiatives that can deliver measurable results.
The proposed dialogue would identify a limited number of priority projects, assign clear responsibilities to relevant institutions and establish measurable outcomes to track progress.
The partnership could create opportunities for AI innovation, technology investment, digital skills development, research and responsible AI regulation, while strengthening collaboration between European and African technology ecosystems.
As artificial intelligence continues to transform industries worldwide, stronger international partnerships could help Ghana expand its digital economy and position itself as a hub for AI development and technology innovation in Africa.
