Former Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson has formally stepped up her campaign to become the next NPP National Women’s Organiser, ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s 2026 National Executives election scheduled for October 3.
Hawa Koomson returned to her home region and visited the NPP Central Regional office in Cape Coast, where she engaged female party executives and members of the Tertiary Students’ Confederacy Network (TESCON).
The engagement brought together 73 female executives and 29 TESCON executives, who expressed support for her bid to lead the NPP Women’s Wing.
Addressing the gathering, Hawa Koomson appealed to delegates to support her campaign through their prayers and votes during the upcoming NPP National Executives election.
She urged the delegates to back her candidacy, saying their support would help bring recognition to the Central Region while allowing her to continue her work within the NPP.
Hawa Koomson Proposes Changes to NPP Women’s Organiser Election
As part of her campaign, Hawa Koomson has proposed changes to the NPP’s rules governing the election of the National Women’s Organiser.
Her proposal seeks to allow all female delegates at the NPP National Delegates Conference to participate in choosing the National Women’s Organiser, rather than limiting the vote to a smaller group of delegates.
The proposal is not new to her campaign. A document containing proposed NPP constitutional amendments identifies Hawa Koomson as the sponsor of an amendment seeking to expand participation in the election of the National Women’s Organiser to all female delegates.
‘I Don’t Need Adverts to Win’ – Hawa Koomson
Speaking about her campaign, Hawa Koomson expressed confidence in her record within the New Patriotic Party, arguing that she does not require an extensive publicity campaign to secure the position.
Using the local alcoholic drink akpeteshie as an analogy, she said: “Akpeteshie doesn’t advertise itself, and I am like akpeteshie. I don’t need any adverts to win the National Women’s Organiser position. My achievements in the NPP will advertise for me.”
She also said the NPP Women’s Wing requires leadership with grassroots experience, courage and the ability to unite members.
According to her, strengthening the women’s wing will require leadership capable of rebuilding confidence and increasing the participation of women across the party.
Central Region Executives Back Hawa Koomson
Female executives and TESCON members in the Central Region, led by Regional Women’s Organiser Charlotte Adowa Antwi, declared their support for Hawa Koomson’s candidacy.
Hawa Koomson is one of three candidates contesting the NPP National Women’s Organiser position, alongside Perpetual Ekua Lomokie Akwada and Safia Mohammed.
The contest forms part of the broader NPP National Executives election, which will determine several key positions within the opposition party’s national leadership structure.
With the October 3 election approaching, candidates are continuing to engage delegates and party members across the country as they seek support for the various national executive positions.
