Dr Akwasi Opong-Fosu, an aspiring National Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), is set to launch his nationwide campaign tour in the Volta Region on Monday, November 2, 2026, as he intensifies efforts to secure the party’s national chairmanship position.

According to a press release dated October 29, 2026, the campaign team said the decision to begin the tour in the Volta Region reflects the area’s longstanding loyalty, sacrifices and significant contributions to the growth and electoral success of the NDC.

The statement, issued by Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, Convenor of the AOF4C Campaign Team, described the Volta Region as a critical stronghold whose contribution remains important to the party’s political future.

Opong-Fosu to Engage NDC Executives and Grassroots Members

The nationwide campaign tour will provide Dr Opong-Fosu with an opportunity to interact with party executives, delegates, grassroots supporters and other stakeholders to discuss his vision for the NDC.

Under the campaign slogan “Consolidating the Gains,” the aspiring National Chairman is expected to outline strategies for strengthening party unity, improving internal organisation and protecting the achievements of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

His campaign also aims to position the NDC to maintain its political dominance and secure victory in the 2028 general elections and beyond.

During the Volta Region tour, Dr Opong-Fosu is expected to meet regional and constituency executives, branch officers, party elders, cadres, former and serving Members of Parliament, government appointees and other influential party members.

The engagements are expected to encourage dialogue, strengthen internal cooperation and build consensus around a more united, inclusive and effective NDC.

NDC National Chairman Hopeful Promotes 3Vs Agenda

A major feature of Dr Opong-Fosu’s campaign is the 3Vs agenda — Votes, Voice and Viability, which his campaign team says will guide his leadership vision for the party.

The initiative seeks to ensure that grassroots members receive greater recognition, have their concerns addressed and benefit from economic empowerment opportunities.

The campaign team believes that strengthening grassroots participation and giving party members a stronger voice in decision-making will be essential to building a sustainable political organisation.

The 3Vs agenda is also intended to improve the participation of party supporters in internal activities while strengthening the NDC’s organisational and electoral structures.

Opong-Fosu Highlights Political and Government Experience

The AOF4C Campaign Team has also highlighted Dr Opong-Fosu’s background in party organisation, public administration and government as important factors supporting his bid for the NDC national chairmanship.

It described him as a founding member of the National Democratic Congress, a former Member of Parliament and a former Minister of State with considerable knowledge of the party’s history, grassroots structures and leadership responsibilities.

According to the campaign team, his political experience and institutional understanding position him to contribute to party unity, organisational development and the consolidation of the NDC’s achievements.

Campaign Targets Stronger and More United NDC Ahead of 2028

With the slogan “Consolidating the Gains,” Dr Opong-Fosu’s campaign seeks to mobilise party members around a shared vision of stronger leadership, grassroots empowerment and long-term political sustainability.

The campaign team maintains that the principles of Votes, Voice and Viability will be central to building an inclusive NDC capable of responding to the expectations of its members and supporters.

As the nationwide campaign tour begins in the Volta Region, attention will be focused on Dr Opong-Fosu’s engagements with party delegates and grassroots executives as he seeks support for his ambition to become the next National Chairman of the governing NDC.
