The Minority Caucus on Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions in Parliament has criticised the proposed public sector salary increases for 2027 and 2028, describing the 9 per cent adjustment for 2027 as inadequate and unfair to Ghanaian workers amid rising living costs.

In a press statement issued on October 30, 2026, the Minority Caucus expressed dissatisfaction with the newly signed Multi-Year Public Service Remuneration Agreement, which was finalised on October 28, 2026.

Under the agreement, public sector workers are expected to receive an 8 per cent base salary increase and an additional 1 per cent adjustment in conditions of service for 2027, bringing the total adjustment to 9 per cent. The proposed salary increase for 2028 is 10 per cent.

However, the Minority Caucus argues that the proposed salary adjustments are insufficient to protect workers’ purchasing power, particularly as households continue to face rising food prices, utility bills and other essential living expenses.

The caucus further noted that public sector workers received salary increases of 10 per cent in 2025 and 9 per cent in 2026, but maintained that the adjustments had failed to match cumulative inflation and the increasing cost of living.

The Minority is therefore concerned that the proposed remuneration package could worsen the financial difficulties facing public sector employees across the country.

The disagreement has renewed attention on public sector wages, salary negotiations, inflation and the impact of rising household expenses on workers’ living standards in Ghana.
