The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Johnson Asiama, has expressed confidence in the performance of the Ghanaian cedi, assuring Ghanaians of a favourable exchange-rate environment during the 2026 Christmas season.
Dr Asiama gave the assurance on Monday, November 2, 2026, while speaking at the African Virtual Assets Summit (AVAS) 2026, amid public concerns about currency fluctuations and their impact on businesses, importers and consumers.
He expressed optimism that the local currency would remain favourable against major international currencies during the festive season, promising Ghanaians a positive Christmas in terms of exchange-rate stability.
The assurance comes as the Bank of Ghana’s latest interbank reference rates show the US dollar trading at GH¢11.6142 for buying and GH¢11.6258 for selling.
The British pound was quoted at GH¢15.5549 for buying and GH¢15.5704 for selling, while the euro traded at GH¢12.9559 for buying and GH¢12.9678 for selling.
The exchange rates, published on November 2, 2026, were based on average interbank market transactions recorded at the close of business on Friday, October 30.
Dr Asiama’s comments are expected to provide reassurance to businesses and consumers concerned about currency stability, import costs and the broader economic outlook ahead of the Christmas festivities.
