The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP), will commission the fourth group of Blue Water Guards at the Ezinlibo Naval Base in the Western Region today, Friday, May 15, 2026, as part of continuous efforts to counter the threat of illegal mining.
The recruits will be sent to different flashpoints to support the galamsey struggle after the Minister inspects a parade by the recently trained Water Guards and gives a speech.
Over 1,600 recruits have been commissioned since the Blue Water Guards were established in March of last year, with the task of obtaining and supplying intelligence to aid in the battle against illegal mining.
The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), which depends on timely intelligence to stop illegal mining activities, especially along the nation’s water bodies, has greatly benefited from this work.
Under the robust and visionary leadership of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, it is anticipated that today’s graduation ceremony and the Blue Water Guards’ ongoing activities will further enhance the government’s resolve in the fight against galamsey.
