“Honor your father and mother” is a fundamental commandment found in Exodus 20:12 and Ephesians 6:2, promising that obedience brings blessings, well-being, and long life.
It means to show deep respect, gratitude, and care for parents, valuing their position with “weight” or importance.
As we mark Mothers’ Day today, many Mothers would be honored because of their toil and labor which are easily appreciated by children. However, a few mothers also run away and left their kids uncared for.
Some left their broken homes and never bothered in anyway about the welfare of the children they left behind.
What do we do to the Mothers who abandoned their motherly love and responsibilities?
The Bible enjoins us to honor them too and ours is just to obey.
We weren’t told to honor our parents who cared for us and abandon those who were mean to us. So, please go look for the woman you were told, gave birth to you but abandoned you and honor her, for this is where your blessings may lie.
It may be annoying but God places His Word (promises, truth, and spoken word) as the ultimate authority, even above His own reputation or name.
This means, once it is the word of God, obedience cannot be sacrificed because of anger and offense.
Please go honor your mother today, especially the one who abandoned you, for, I repeat, this is where your own blessings may lie.
I celebrate my own mother. Happy Mothers’ Day, mum. Look at her… she’s 79 but still won’t give up on anything
