The Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has arrived in Latvia for a two-day official visit. A party of six people, including a pathologist, a forensic specialist, and top directors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed him.
The visit’s main goal is to obtain justice for the late Ghanaian student Nana Agyei Ahyia, who attended Riga Technical University.

On February 2, 2026, the Honourable Minister met with his Latvian colleague, Her Excellency Baiba Braň, who pledged the full support of the Latvian government in the search for justice and the truth for the deceased.
It is anticipated that the Honourable Minister and his entourage would meet with investigators assigned to the case as well as other Latvian authorities, such as the Ministries of the Interior, Education, and Science.
The protection of the welfare and dignity of every Ghanaian continues to be the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ top priority.
