Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, has undertaken a series of meetings with Ghanaian stakeholders and foreign advocates on the sidelines of the ongoing 70th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) in New York.
As part of attempts to enhance discussions about Ghana’s larger gender initiatives, the Minister urged Ghanaian participants and other conference attendees to interact and share ideas about furthering gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment.

The engagement, which brought together youth groups, women, and men from various civil society organisations (CSOs) and gender advocacy groups from Ghana and the diaspora, was intended to deepen global partnerships and collective efforts to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, as well as to strengthen collaboration between the Ministry and stakeholders attending the conference.
The Ministers’ request for cooperation started with a gathering of young women from advocacy and civil society organisations both domestically and abroad.
Critical topics impacting girls and women were discussed, such as online sexualisation and body shaming, digital abuse, and bolstering the legal system for victims of gender-based violence.
Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey also used the opportunity to discuss critical policy initiatives and activities being undertaken by the Ministry to protect women and girls and promote inclusive development, ensuring that no one falls behind.
The Minister then spoke with over 100 Ghanaian conference attendees from Ghana and the diaspora, including representatives from civil society, academics, unions, and gender advocacy groups.
She stated that the engagement was aimed to establish a network of Ghanaian stakeholders who may continue to partner with the Ministry after the conference.

The gathering gave attendees a forum to discuss current projects, share ideas, and look into ways to work together to advance Ghana’s gender agenda.
The idea to involve stakeholders at the conference was applauded by the participants, who praised the Minister for her leadership and described it as a strategic and inclusive forum for enhanced collaboration.
Under His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama’s Rest Agenda, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bolstering the gender sector and ensuring that Ghana’s engagement in international platforms results in significant benefits for women and girls.
She also urged attendees to fully participate in the conference and represent Ghana’s gender agenda.
As part of her larger plan to strengthen alliances and promote gender equality and women’s empowerment, the Minister will keep interacting with stakeholders throughout the conference.
