The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced the first FIFA U15 Girls Regional Colts Leagues on Friday, January 23, 2026, at its offices in Accra, signalling a big step forward in developing young female talent across the country.

This effort, supported by FIFA’s Women’s Football Development Programme, aims to transform grassroots women’s football by establishing structured routes for girls under the age of fifteen.

The spectacular launch ceremony attracted key leaders from the women’s game, including FIFA Consultant Thuba Sibanda, GFA Executive Council members, Regional Football Association Chairmen, technical specialists, players, and administrators.

GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo kicked off the event by emphasising the need of communal ownership in sustaining the program’s success and developing emerging talents across the nation.

GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku hailed FIFA for its steadfast support in his keynote address, portraying the leagues as a victory of investment and shared ambition.

He considered the strategic push his administration has been making since 2019, moving from platitudes to concrete initiatives like creating long-term frameworks for the development of women’s football.

Simeon-Okraku emphasised how the leagues provide Ghana’s ten regions with a competitive environment for skill development, early talent identification, and increased participation rates.

For the first time, U15 girls have a defined path from local pitches to top levels, incorporating virtues like excellence, discipline, and teamwork along the way.
