Ghana has overtaken the United States to become the world’s sixth-largest gold producer, according to the Ghana Chamber of Mines, highlighting the country’s growing importance in the global gold mining industry.

Ghana recorded a historic gold production of 5.94 million ounces, equivalent to about 185 tonnes, in 2025. The figure represents an impressive 23% increase in gold output compared with the previous year.

The record production underscores the continued growth of Ghana’s mining sector and strengthens the country’s position as one of Africa’s leading gold-producing economies.

The surge in gold production could further boost Ghana’s gold exports, foreign exchange earnings, government revenue and economic growth, particularly as global demand for the precious metal remains strong.

Ghana’s latest ranking also reinforces the strategic importance of the gold mining industry to the national economy and its contribution to employment, investment and export revenues.
