The Ghana Police Service has announced a temporary restriction on the movement of concrete mixer trucks on roads across Accra and Tema from Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30, 2026.
The directive was issued after a stakeholder meeting held on Thursday, August 27, involving the Police, the National Security Secretariat, and owners and operators of transit mixer trucks.
The meeting, led by Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno, focused on improving road safety, traffic management, and compliance with road traffic regulations.
Police Raise Concerns Over Concrete Spillage on Roads
During the engagement, authorities expressed concern over instances where concrete and other construction materials are spilled onto public roads by mixer trucks.
According to stakeholders, materials left on major roads can obstruct traffic, endanger motorists and pedestrians, contribute to road accidents, and damage road surfaces.
Concrete mixer truck operators were therefore advised to take greater responsibility during transportation and construction activities by ensuring that no concrete or other materials are discharged or abandoned on public roads.
Three-Day Restriction in Accra and Tema
As part of the temporary traffic management measure, concrete mixer trucks will not be permitted to operate on roads within Accra and Tema for three days.
The Ghana Police Service said the restriction is aimed at creating an opportunity for authorities to clear and clean road surfaces affected by concrete spills and construction-related debris.
The Police also issued a warning that concrete mixer trucks found violating the directive could face enforcement action under Ghana’s road traffic laws.
Authorities and Industry Stakeholders Attend Meeting
Representatives from the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highways Authority, as well as owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks, participated in the stakeholder meeting.
The temporary restriction forms part of efforts by the authorities to improve road safety in Accra and Tema, protect road users and maintain the condition of public roads.
Motorists and other road users in the affected areas are encouraged to take note of the directive and plan their journeys accordingly during the three-day period.
