The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has clarified the government’s decision to revoke the mining leases of Adamus Resources Limited, stressing that the company’s assets are not for sale.
The clarification, issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, follows reports suggesting that the revocation of Adamus Resources’ mining lease was linked to plans to sell the company or transfer its mining assets to another investor.
The Ministry dismissed such reports, explaining that the revocation of the mining lease should not be interpreted as a government decision to sell Adamus Resources Limited.
Government Explains Adamus Mining Lease Revocation
According to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the government, through the Minerals Commission and other relevant state institutions, has a responsibility to ensure that Ghana’s mineral resources are exploited in accordance with the country’s laws and in a manner that protects the interests of Ghanaians.
The Ministry explained that regulatory action is necessary when a holder of a mining licence or mining lease fails to comply with the terms of the agreement or applicable mining laws and regulations.
It said the decision involving Adamus Resources was therefore based on regulatory compliance, legality and the protection of the public interest, rather than an attempt to transfer the company’s assets to a preferred investor.
Adamus Mining Assets Not for Sale
The Ministry further stated that there is currently no government decision to sell Adamus Resources Limited or its mining assets.
It described claims that the mining lease was revoked to pave the way for the sale of Adamus’ assets to another company as speculative and inaccurate.
“Any suggestion that the revocation was undertaken to facilitate the sale of the company’s assets to another entity is speculative and does not reflect the basis for Government’s decision,” the Ministry stated.
Government Reaffirms Commitment to Ghana’s Mining Sector
The government’s clarification highlights its position that mining companies operating in Ghana must comply with the country’s mining laws and lease conditions.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources said regulatory decisions concerning mining rights are intended to safeguard Ghana’s mineral resources and protect the broader national interest, rather than favouring particular investors or companies.
The clarification is expected to address concerns surrounding the Adamus Resources mining lease revocation and separate the government’s regulatory action from claims of an impending sale of the company or its mining assets.
