IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva expressed optimism that Ghana and the Fund will reach an agreement shortly.

In response to a question on when Ghanaians may anticipate a deal, she told journalists in Washington DC at the launch of the IMF MD’s Global Policy on the margins of the ongoing IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings: “We have been urging Ghana’s creditors to act swiftly.”

“To tell you the truth, I am optimistic that we are going to move swiftly and so stay positive.”

She said, “We are confident that the creditors will act swiftly at the meetings next week and will also act swiftly on Ghana’s request.”

She advised Ghanaians to maintain their optimism.

“I still believe that the challenge that Ghana is going through is not just as a result of the domestic situation, but also external,” the IMF managing director reaffirmed.

Ghana has historically done well when using the capital market to fund its budget.

Therefore, we think that if Ghana is having difficulties at this moment, assistance should be provided.

Ghana is asking the Bretton Woods organization for a $3 billion bailout.
