Inflation drops to 22.8% in June

The Ghana Statistical Service said on Wednesday that the annual inflation rate decreased to 22.8% in June from 23.1% in May.

This indicates that the overall price level was 22.8 percent higher in June 2024 than it was in June 2023 or April 2023.

Inflation from May to June 2024 was 2.9% month over month.

During a press event, Government Statistician Professor Samuel Annim stated that the June 2024 Consumer Price Index was 226.4, compared to June 2023’s 184.4.

He stated that the month-over-month food inflation was 5.1%, with food inflation this month being 24.0% higher than last month’s 22.6%.

In the meantime, non-food inflation also made up 21.6% of the total, down from 23.6% in the previous month and 0.9% month over month.

In contrast to locally produced goods, which saw inflation of 25.0%, imported goods experienced inflation of only 17.5%.

In terms of regional inflation, the Oti Region continued to record the lowest regional inflation of 12.5%, while the Upper East continued to record the highest inflation rate of 35.2%.
