The Komfo Anokye Doctors’ Association (KADA) has called off its indefinite strike in protest of Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo’s suspension as CEO.
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the hospital board, hospital management, and other important stakeholders intervened to put an end to the strike.
Concerns about the effects of a protracted strike on patient care and public health, according to a statement signed by KADA Chairman Dr. Michael Leat and released on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, also influenced the association’s decision to stop the action and carry on discussions.
The statement stated, “The safety and well-being of patients and the broader public interest remain central to our responsibilities, and these have informed our decision to suspend the action and continue the dialogue,”
The doctors withdrew emergency and outpatient services when the government suspended Dr. Baidoo citing hospital congestion and patient care issues.
KADA congratulated Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Hospital Board, management, and the Ghana Medical Association for their efforts to resolve the disagreement, and committed to continue engaging stakeholders on the issues that sparked the industrial action.
Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, located in Kumasi, is Ghana’s second-largest teaching hospital and the primary referral center for the Ashanti Region and northern sections of the country.
