The leaders of both caucuses have concluded the debate on President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered on Friday, February 27, 2026.

For his part, Minority Leader, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin claimed that the government’s choice to purchase a Presidential Jet while many hospitals in the country have yet to be finished is unacceptable.

According to him, the President failed to keep his pledge to create jobs for the youth, pointing out that many adolescents were denied the opportunity to participate in the recent security recruiting due to a lack of internet connection.

He further contended that the government’s move to lower cocoa producer prices has exacerbated the cocoa farmer’s suffering.

In his counter-argument, the Majority Leader, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, stated that the producer price has been raised to unprecedented levels under President Mahama, ensuring that when the world pays more for a bar of chocolate, the farmer in Sefwi, Enchi, and Tepa finally sees a reflection of that value in his pocket.

“This is not mere commerce; it is the restoration of the dignity of the Ghanaian soil.”

“We are moving from being exporters of raw toil to masters of our own industrial destiny, investing in local processing so that “Made in Ghana” becomes a global standard of excellence, not a colonial footnote” he stated.

The motion of the SONA, which was made by the MP for Bolgatanga Central, Hon. Isaac Adongo, and seconded by the MP for Assin South, Hon. John Ntim Fordjour, was approved by the House at the end of the debate.
