President John Dramani Mahama is expected to cut the sod for the construction of the new Accra Convention Centre in the coming weeks, as Ghana moves forward with plans to develop a major modern conference and events facility.

The announcement was made by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament, Presidential Spokesperson and Minister of Government Communications, in a Facebook post.

The project is being financed as an investment by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and will be constructed at the Trade Fair Centre in La, Accra.

New Accra Convention Centre to Cover 81,422 Square Metres

According to Mr Kwakye Ofosu, the proposed Accra Convention Centre will cover approximately 81,422 square metres and is expected to provide modern facilities for major national and international conferences.

The centre will feature a 3,000-seat main conference hall, providing a large venue for conferences, summits, exhibitions and other major events.

It will also include a dedicated Presidential Hall designed to accommodate high-level meetings involving government officials, international delegations and other dignitaries.

Four Large Auditoriums and Modern Facilities

The new convention centre will further feature four large auditoriums, alongside other modern amenities designed to support conferences and major events.

The development is expected to strengthen Accra’s capacity to host international meetings, business conferences, diplomatic engagements and large-scale events.

The SSNIT-funded Accra Convention Centre project forms part of efforts to expand Ghana’s modern infrastructure and provide facilities capable of meeting the needs of both local and international visitors.

With its strategic location at the Trade Fair Centre in La, the facility is expected to become an important addition to Accra’s conference, tourism and business infrastructure once completed.
