A new shortcode system being developed by Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) and telecommunications providers will let subscribers check the number of SIM cards that are registered to their Ghana cards.

The number of SIMs registered with the card will be displayed after a verification procedure that necessitates the use of the Ghana Card PIN, according to the NCA, which will only require subscribers to enter a few digits on their phone.

Subscribers won’t need to physically visit their service providers to check the number of SIMs connected to their Ghana Card once the short code is implemented. Following the conclusion of testing and approval, the NCA has stated that the shortcode is anticipated to be active by the end of April 2023.

In addition to giving consumers more control over the number of SIM cards registered in their names, this initiative is a part of the NCA’s continuous efforts to improve and streamline the SIM registration procedure in Ghana. Unregistered SIM cards are becoming more and more common, which raises security issues and opens the door to illicit activity.

In order to keep track of the SIM cards registered in their names and lower the risk of fraud and other criminal activity, the NCA has asked users to make use of this new system once it is live.
