The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says between 3,000 and 4,000 police personnel have been deployed to provide security for its National Delegates Conference and elections scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

NPP Organisation Committee Chairperson Anthony Abayifaa Karbo said the police deployment forms part of comprehensive security and traffic management arrangements for the major party event.

Police Security Tightened Ahead of NPP Elections

According to Karbo, the deployed police officers will be responsible for traffic management, security at hostels accommodating delegates and guests, and protection around and inside the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The announcement comes as Kumasi prepares to host thousands of delegates for the NPP National Delegates Conference, where the party is expected to elect its national officers.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has also announced temporary road closures and traffic diversions around the stadium to support public safety and traffic management during the conference.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has identified several routes for temporary closure and announced alternative routes for motorists. The measures are scheduled for Saturday, October 3, during the NPP conference and elections.

The Police have urged motorists, delegates, party supporters and residents to plan their journeys ahead of time and comply with instructions from officers deployed to the affected areas.

Karbo expressed confidence in the conduct of the aspirants and delegates, noting that the contestants had cooperated throughout the preparations.

He urged delegates to conduct themselves responsibly to ensure the NPP National Delegates Conference and elections proceed peacefully and smoothly.

He added that the party remained committed to ensuring a well-organised event and said preparations were progressing as planned.

A total of 7,163 delegates from all 16 regions are expected to participate in the NPP national officers’ election, with 45 aspirants contesting nine positions, according to the Ghana News Agency.
