The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared that it will protest what it claims is state-sponsored persecution of certain of its members by the Ghana Police Service by holding a demonstration on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
In a Facebook post on Friday, September 12, Salam Mustapha, the party’s National Youth Organiser, made the announcement.
The ruling comes after an Accra Circuit Court remanded Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP.
To give prosecutors additional time to look into the matter, he was mandated to stay in police custody for two weeks.
On Monday, September 8, Abronye DC was initially taken into custody for what the police characterized as “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace.” Since then, he has stayed in detention.
Salam Mustapha responded to the news on Facebook, posting, “Tuesday, 23rd September, the National Youth Wing will organise a demo against the state-sponsored police harassment. From Obra Spot to police headquarters. 6 a.m. sharp!”

A significant criminal investigation is also underway into the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, on charges of money laundering, fraud, and causing financial harm to the state.
It has also been claimed that other party affiliates have been arrested on other dates in connection with different instances.
The youth wing’s leadership claims that many NPP supporters would attend the planned demonstration and that it will oppose what it views as politically driven moves by governmental institutions.
