Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said that on Monday, July 13, the party will march to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to seek an explanation for Dennis Miracles Aboagye’s detention.

He states that the purpose of the scheduled march is to get clarification on the circumstances surrounding Miracles’ detention, which the party considers to be an attempt to scare opposition members.

Nana Boakye said that Miracles was detained without any prior invitation or notification from EOCO regarding an inquiry or any alleged violation in an interview with Channel One News on Sunday, July 12.

He voiced alarm over the growing use of official institutions to intimidate political opponents, claiming that this goes against Ghana’s democratic values.

“Miracles has not received any invitation from EOCO. He has not been informed of any wrongdoing. He has not been told that he is under any form of investigation,” Nana Boakye said.

Nana Boakye emphasised that the NPP is in favour of accountability and will assist with any lawful inquiry involving its members, but she maintained that due process must be adhered to.

His remarks come after Justin Kodua Frimpong, the general secretary of the NPP, said on Facebook that Dennis Miracles Aboagye was detained by EOCO officers at the Accra International Airport with the help of immigration officials.

The post claims that no charges have been brought against Miracles, his whereabouts are still unknown, and his attorneys have now been denied access to him.

At the time of publication, EOCO had not addressed the NPP’s accusations or made a public statement regarding the arrest.
