Hon. John Dumelo, the MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon and Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, has told Parliament that the government is taking steps to assist the Atebubu-Amantin District’s maize and bean farmers in the wake of last year’s marketing difficulties.

In response to enquiries on the House floor, the Deputy Minister said that in order to boost agricultural output statewide, the Ministry has started distributing garden inputs for the 2026 main cropping season.

He said, “The Ministry is working closely with the National Food Buffer Stock Company to strengthen the purchase and marketing of locally produced grain and has directed the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) to intensify the purchase of surplus maize, rice, and soya beans from farmers to help address the marketing difficulties and provide a ready market for their produce.”

According to Hon. Dumelo, the actions are anticipated to boost Ghana’s food security, stabilise prices, and increase farmers’ incomes.
