Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, a former Finance Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for the Karaga Constituency, has endorsed Mr. Awentami Paul Afoko for the role of National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Noting that the party is currently in opposition and needs experienced hands, he said the former National Chairman is the ideal leader to reposition the party ahead of future elections.

Speaking at his private home during a courtesy call by a few NPP officials and candidates, Dr. Amin Adam stated that his support was predicated on the candidate’s skill and capacity to guide the party back to power.

“I support Paul Afoko for National Chairman,” he declared to the admiration of his guests. According to him, leadership choices within the party should be guided by competence rather than popularity.

“We know the serious people who can bring us back to power. We do not follow the masses to choose someone to support; we support those we believe have the potential to win and lead the party,” he said.

He went on to say that although he has no doubts about his allegiance to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, he thinks Mr. Awentami Paul Afoko is a strong candidate to assist the party in regaining power.

Dr. Amin Adam emphasised that his trust in Mr. Afoko is based on their prior collaboration as well as his evaluation of Afoko’s capacity for fundraising and leadership.

“I have worked with Paul Afoko, and I know he is competent. He can also help raise funds for the party because we need money as a party in opposition,” he reiterated.

In the meantime, Mr. Afoko has been travelling the nation promoting what he refers to as the “3Rs Agenda,” which calls for rebuilding, reuniting, and returning the NPP to power.

He has been advocating for the reunion of groups that broke off during the leadership issue in the 2024 elections as well as the return of members who were excluded or departed.

Additionally, the former national chairman has been advocating for providing rank-and-file employees, constituency executives, and polling station executives more authority and respect.

Afoko presents himself as the leader who can reorganise the NPP’s base following the 2024 defeat, highlighting important pledges of improved welfare, logistics, and participation in party decision-making.
