The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) has launched the Ghana Agricultural Fund for Education and Transformation (GAFET) as part of efforts to strengthen agricultural education, skills development, research and innovation across the country.

Speaking at the official launch on August 11, 2026, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, said Ghana’s agricultural transformation agenda requires a highly skilled and well-trained workforce capable of driving sustainable growth in the sector.

GAFET has already secured an initial GH¢3.5 million in funding from five agribusiness partners. The initiative aims to raise GH¢10 million by December 2026 and expand the fund to GH¢100 million by 2028.

The agricultural education fund is expected to support the development and upgrading of laboratories, workshops and demonstration farms, while providing access to modern agricultural machinery and practical training facilities.

GAFET will also finance agricultural research, scholarships, internships, innovation projects and hands-on learning opportunities to equip students and young professionals with the skills needed to succeed in Ghana’s agriculture sector.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to promote food security, agricultural productivity, youth employment and sustainable economic development through investment in human capital.

According to the ministry, strengthening agricultural education today will help Ghana build a more productive, innovative and food-secure agricultural sector for the future.
