Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at the Yendi Fire Station travelled approximately 61 kilometres to respond to a major fire outbreak at the Gushegu Nursing and Midwifery Training College on Monday, August 17, 2026.
The fire broke out at the institution and affected the school’s ICT laboratory and an adjoining classroom, raising concerns about potential damage to educational facilities and equipment.


Firefighters Prevent Major Damage at Gushegu Nursing College
Despite the distance, the GNFS team arrived and quickly worked to contain the flames.
The firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the nursing and midwifery training college, helping to limit the extent of property damage.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service, the blaze was brought fully under control and completely extinguished at 9:13 a.m.
The swift response by the Yendi Fire Station helped protect other facilities within the institution and potentially prevented a more extensive fire disaster.


Cause of Fire Under Investigation
The cause of the fire at Gushegu Nursing and Midwifery Training College remains unknown.
The Ghana National Fire Service has commenced investigations to determine what triggered the incident.
