GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi has strongly rejected claims by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin that the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) recorded financial losses in 2025.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, the allegation that GoldBod made losses is false and unsupported by the institution’s audited financial statements. He described the claim as a product of the Minority Leader’s imagination.

Sammy Gyamfi referenced page 16 of GoldBod’s Audited Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year ended December 31, 2025, which he said shows that the state-owned gold trading institution recorded an operational surplus of GH¢907 million.

The report further indicates that GoldBod recorded an overall surplus of approximately GH¢5.4 billion for the 2025 financial year.

The GoldBod boss stressed that the financial statements were audited and published by the Auditor-General of Ghana, making the figures an official record of the institution’s financial performance.

He maintained that the audited figures should settle the debate over GoldBod’s financial position, insisting that the official accounts demonstrate that the institution generated a substantial surplus rather than operating at a loss.

The development has reignited discussions about GoldBod’s financial performance, Ghana’s gold trade, government revenue mobilisation and the management of the country’s gold resources.
