The Second Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament has begun as Parliament has resumed sessions today, Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Members of Parliament return to their full legislative responsibilities after a break for the Easter holiday.
Lawmakers are anticipated to participate in committee work, legislative debates, and discussions on pressing national issues once business resumes.
The presentation of the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review by the Minister of Finance, which is planned for August, is one of the major highlights of this session.
Richard Acheampong, the Second Deputy Majority Whip, gave an overview of the agenda for the meeting in an interview with Citi FM prior to the sitting.
“The ministers will make their statements so we can assess their achievements over the past three months and understand their plans going forward. We have a packed agenda this sitting, including the mid-year budget review in August,” Mr. Acheampong said.
The Minority Caucus had a strategic retreat over the weekend prior to the resumption in order to assess its performance from the previous session and establish important agenda items for the upcoming meeting. The caucus’s monitoring plan was another goal of the retreat.
The opposition is prepared to participate actively and constructively, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin reiterated.
“We are sending a strong message to our opponents—we will hold their feet to the fire while remaining a responsible opposition. I assure Ghanaians that we are ready to take power in 2028,” he reiterated.
