President John Dramani Mahama has sent the Attorney General the report from the election violence investigation so that further action can be taken.

President Mahama promised to completely execute the recommendations of the investigation into the violence that occurred during the 2020 and 2024 elections, including giving all victims fair compensation.

He made the pledge when Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) executives, led by Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, the organization’s president, paid him a courtesy call.

A number of concerns were brought to the President’s attention by the GJA delegation.

“Last week, I received the investigative report on the two incidents. It details and catalogues everyone who was affected by the violence and the circumstances that led to it,” President Mahama said.

“We have handed it over to the Attorney-General. The Attorney-General will review it and, where necessary, hold people culpable and bring them to book,” he added.

He pointed out that the government has given the Attorney-General the responsibility of figuring out what kind of compensation victims—including the families of the deceased and injured—should receive.

He questioned, “What is the adequate compensation that we can give to people like that?”

President Mahama added that journalists performing their lawful duties have been impacted by electoral violence, in addition to political activists and innocent bystanders.
