A thorough investigation into claims of malpractice in the ongoing 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has been declared by the Ghana Education Service (GES).

This move was made in reaction to growing allegations of cheating in several testing locations nationwide.

GES promised the public in a news release signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations, that it will acquire and carefully examine all pertinent records and transcripts pertaining to the alleged instances.

“A copy of the full documentary with the original transcripts will be obtained and scrutinised immediately, after which a full-scale investigation will be conducted into the allegations,” the statement read.

GES made clear how strongly it opposes exam cheating, characterizing it as a serious danger to the educational system.

Management issued a warning, saying, “Cheating undermines the integrity of our education system, destroys meritocracy, and produces graduates who lack the competencies required for national development.”

The Service also reassured stakeholders that it will work with law enforcement, WAEC, and National Security to resolve the problem.

“Management has the support of the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, and the GES Council to sanction any official of the Service, teaching or non-teaching, found to have been involved in aiding or abetting cheating in the examination,” the statement added.
