The National Association of Institutional Suppliers (NAIS) has said that it will picket the Ministry of Education on June 11, 2026, in protest of the government’s refusal to pay its members under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program.
The group claimed in a statement released on Wednesday, June 3, that the protest was required because of the protracted delay in paying suppliers of school clothes, home dresses, and uniforms to public senior high schools, which amounts to almost GH¢50 million.
Despite multiple contacts and requests to the appropriate authorities, NAIS claims that its members have not been paid for supplies delivered since 2023.
According to the group, suppliers have experienced severe financial difficulties as a result of the nonpayment, which is endangering their capacity to continue offering vital services to schools.
“The picketing aims not only to draw the government’s attention to our plight but also to urge the immediate release of funds owed to NAIS members,” the statement said.
NAIS stated that it anticipates the protest would draw attention to how urgent the problem is and spur the government to act quickly to pay off the outstanding debts.
In an effort to raise awareness of the issue among important stakeholders, the group has also urged the media to report on the scheduled protest.
The picketing is planned for June 11, 2026, at the Ministry of Education.
