Luke 19:5 says “When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.”
Beloved, our word for the week is short and straightforward. It is about the humility that must be displayed even when we have it all and have seen it all.
Zacchaeus was a wealthy man in his time. But for him to experience the blessings of God and have it in abundance, Jesus ordered him to “COME DOWN!” What do we have that we were not given and what do we know that we were not taught? Although Christ wants us to rise to the peak of our careers and be prosperous in all that we do,
He at the same time expects a certain “come down” humility from us that makes us relate well with all. Manna no longer falls from heaven and so whatever God would do for us would come from human beings. Romans 12:18 says “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone”. This Biblical principle would yeild mutually beneficial advantages for all in the areas of networks and assistance when necessary. But how do we achieves these if we aren’t willing to “come down”?
James 4:6b explains that “…God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.” Humility is not a weakness. It is the nature of God. Philippians 2:5-7 says; “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus, who being in the very nature of God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.”
Sometimes we use pride as a weapon to make others know how powerful we are. It is not necessary. Let us lose it all in prayer right now. God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Let us come down; and pray for a humble and gentle spirit, so God can continue to lift us up higher.
