After 18 years of filmmaking, renowned Ghanaian filmmaker, writer, producer, and Sparrow Studios owner Shirley Frimpong Manso has started a new YouTube channel called “Sparrow Station Channel.”
On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, the launch event was held at the Labadi Beach Hotel. Shirley talked about her experience and the studio’s dedication to spreading its tales to the world, as well as the transformational potential of film.
“It all began with my first feature film, Life and Living It. I never knew if audiences would leave the comfort of their homes to see it at the National Theatre, one of the few venues in Ghana at the time,” she shared.
Notwithstanding her early reservations, the movie struck a chord with audiences, resulting in multiple profitable showings and solidifying Sparrow Studios’ position as a major player in Ghana’s film industry.
Shirley underlined the studio’s goal to do more than just create engaging entertainment.
“We strive to share our stories with the world. Film possesses a profound power to reshape perceptions, inspire perspectives, and challenge societal norms. We are not merely storytellers; we are catalysts for change,” she reiterated.
With the debut of “Sparrow Station Channel,” the studio embarks on a new phase that embraces the changing digital distribution landscape.

She formally announced the launch as she wrapped up her remarks.

“We’ve explored various distribution platforms over the past 18 years, seeking the perfect outlet for our vision. YouTube, in particular, has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years, redefining its content landscape,” Shirley explained.
