The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) says it is increasing its focus on financial investments as part of efforts to improve returns and ensure the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s pension scheme.
SSNIT disclosed that its total assets have grown to GH¢36 billion, strengthening its capacity to explore additional investment opportunities across the financial sector.
The Director-General of SSNIT, Kwesi Afreh Biney, made the disclosure during an engagement with organised labour on August 11, 2026, where the Trust provided an update on the performance of the pension scheme and its investment strategy.
According to SSNIT, expanding its portfolio of financial instruments and investment assets will help generate stronger returns for contributors while supporting the long-term financial stability of the Ghana pension system.
The Trust is therefore assessing additional investment opportunities that can enhance returns, protect pension funds and improve the sustainability of SSNIT pension benefits for workers and retirees.
The latest investment strategy forms part of broader efforts by SSNIT to strengthen pension fund management and ensure the scheme remains financially sustainable for future generations.
