The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been directed by the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy to publish a load-shedding schedule in order to help residents plan their activities in the midst of continuous power outages.

This choice was made in response to calls for greater openness and better handling of the energy problem that arose during several weeks of more frequent power disruptions.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy, has previously voiced his displeasure with requests for a schedule and advised individuals who were interested to make their own.

The Mines and Energy Committee, however, has stepped in and emphasized how crucial it is to provide a load control schedule. On April 7, ECG admitted difficulties with power distribution in a meeting with power industry stakeholders.

The head of the Parliamentary Energy Committee, Mr. Samuel Atta Akyea, emphasized the necessity for openness and efficient planning while reiterating the committee’s dedication to closely observing the timeline’s execution.

“The conversations we’ve had so far are very good, some of the technical challenges relating to fuel and the rest of it may be tackled”, adding: “If there’s under generation, which there’s an admission there’s one, we should do everything in our power to make sure that we generate enough power.” Mr Atta Akyea said

“I think the Committee was very strong on the matter that if there are power outages, those who are enjoying should know when it’ll be available, and then they plan their lives around the timetable they’ll furnish them.” he said

“They are going to do it and we’ll do everything in our power to monitor them.” he added.
