Plans to set up assisted departure options for Ghanaian nationals in Qatar who want to depart by road have been revealed by the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Qatar.

The Embassy stated in an update on March 8, 2026, that the plans come after a previous announcement made on March 6.

The statement claims that the mission is preparing logistically to assist Ghanaians who have an urgent need to leave Qatar by land.

The notice read, “Further to the notice issued by the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Qatar on March 6, 2026, the Embassy wishes to inform that it is making arrangements for assisted departure options for Ghanaians seeking to leave Qatar by road.”

As a result, the Embassy has encouraged interested parties to formally notify the mission via email of their decision to depart.

The message said, “Anyone who urgently wishes to leave is kindly requested to indicate their interest by email to [email protected].”

Following a recent attack on Ghanaian peacekeepers working under a United Nations mission in Lebanon, there is increased diplomatic anxiety at the time of the briefing.

A missile attack injured several Ghanaian soldiers stationed in Lebanon on March 6, the day Ghana celebrated its 69th Independence Day.

Since then, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has revealed that the government has formally asked António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, to launch an inquiry and guarantee consequences against those accountable.

Mr. Ablakwa disclosed that multiple Ghanaian peacekeepers were hurt in the assault while speaking at the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting in London.

“On our way to this meeting, our peacekeepers in Lebanon were attacked. As we speak, three of them have undergone surgeries,” he stated.

The government has also urged Commonwealth of Nations members to vehemently denounce the assault on UN forces, cautioning that such acts jeopardise international peacekeeping operations and the fundamentals of multilateral collaboration.

As plans for the assisted departure process move forward, the Ghanaian community in Qatar will continue to receive updates from the Ghana Embassy in Doha.
