The Foreign Affairs Ministry has stated that Ghana’s Embassy in Washington, D.C. will resume this Thursday after a brief closure brought on by inquiries into suspected corruption.

The shutdown, which attracted both domestic and foreign attention, was a daring step taken by the Foreign Affairs Minister to eradicate malpractice and bring professionalism back to Ghana’s diplomatic activities overseas.

Speaking to the media, Ablekuma South MP Alfred Okoe Vanderpuye, a prominent member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, commended the Minister for acting so quickly and decisively.

“We commend the Foreign Minister for taking the bold step to suspend the operations of the embassy while addressing the misconduct.”

“This sends a strong message about our government’s zero-tolerance for corruption, even in our foreign missions,” Mr. Vanderpuye said.

Officials said the embassy will reopen with full operations and a new agenda that prioritizes accountability, integrity, and high-quality service.

Steps have been taken to strengthen oversight, simplify operations, and stop abuses in the future.

The reopening, according to the Foreign Affairs Committee’s Majority Caucus, demonstrates the government’s unwavering dedication to openness and sound governance.

“The embassy’s revival is not just about restoring operations, it’s about resetting standards and rebuilding trust with Ghanaians abroad and international partners,” the Committee said.
