The government has started providing skills training mixed with French language instruction for some 2000 people working in the nation’s hospitality sector as part of a comprehensive language training initiative to improve the country’s tourism sector.

The program is designed to promote Ghana as a desirable travel destination within Africa and, ideally, in West Africa.

In order to solidify the nation’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and culturally sensitive tourism industry, the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, claims that the combination of skill training and French language instruction will ensure effective communication and the provision of exceptional, individualized services to Francophone tourists.

He disclosed that following the French training, either Chinese or German will be added to make Ghana’s tourism business bilingual and able to draw visitors from around the world.

He stated that Ghana should have drawn 2 million visitors from all around the world by the end of 2026.

Regarding the various tourist industries in the nation, he stated that his organization is in discussions with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to support the establishment of travel programs for schoolchildren. The Minister pointed out that this will help students understand their culture.
